Group project done with: Chia-Ying Lee. (2004)

This project was four-weeks and consisted of conceptualization and creating a GUI for collecting memories.

MISSION: This project was four-weeks and consisted of conceptualization and creating a GUI for collecting memories.

CONTEXT:We found clothing is an effective trigger to recall and record personal memories. Therefore we focused on how memory would be associated in this context and explored the possible (valid and suitable) ways to help users collect and arrange their memories.

Clothes are witness to our daily life and through the years and experiences we have. We experience the most important, happiest, and sadist events with them. Some clothing is the cause and trigger of our memories.

Clothing can be links directly to certain periods or events in our life. Every time we see these clothes, we recall the memories about those periods or events immediately. For example Joo -Young has a memory of her high school uniform, “When I see a high school uniform it always reminds me the days of having fun in the video game playground with my classmates when we were struggling for the college entrance exam at the same time”.

These thoughts lead to our main idea: to store memories associated with clothing and share them.

“Memory Pile” enables users to record stories connected to their collection of clothing with text or image. Users share their memories by letting their friends browse stories they have stored. Users can also enrich other people’s memory collection by adding their own stories or images. Pile metaphor: The clothes are pilled on top of each other. Each layer of clothing are different events and memories that happened in the same year. Each layer is a different year. This timeline is progressive . Over the years and memories the pile becomes larger. At the first entry date there are only the first clothes that are shown. At the last date of entry on the time line all the layers of clothing are visible.
