Brief : Design a fridge for in 5 years. (the project was done in 2000). A fridge for parents with young children. |

During user research I observed families in their homes using their fridge. The focus turned to families with young children, during the observation a key issue came up in several families is the lack of control parents have on their children getting to the fridge and taking what they want. Considerations taken into the design were access for children younger than 6 year olds. |

Luc is 4 years old. He can now walk up to the fridge and take out what he wants. This round compartment is separated from the rest of the fridge and is at the height that the children can get to. The parents can choose healthy foods/snacks and drinks, then the children can choose form this without being supervised at all times. This area is also a place the children can draw directly onto the fridge with non permanent markers. |
